Level 2 Textiles
Course Description
Teacher in Charge: Mrs L. Callard.
Textile Technology provides an opportunity for students to explore technological activities that use a creative and ‘hands on’ approach to learning using textiles, commercial patterns, resources and incorporating sustainability and to some degree e-textiles.
This course will involve creating and sewing, construction of garments and projects research, brief development, concept design, and evaluating outcomes.
Students will focus on producing textiles based outcomes fit for purpose over the course of the year.
This programme is based on UNIT standards.
Mahi will be collacted in a portfolio style and presented for assessment.
Course Overview
Term 1
We reconnect with all things sewing!
Take time to remember the skills and the how do I...
We start the year off with the unit standard around the programme 'Dress a Girl'.
This looks at creating garments for others around the world.
This is an international programme in which we are involved.
We may push this through into next term as well
Term 2
Term 2 looks at creating a non wearable item
This could be anything from a bag to a storage unit
Again we will look at techniques and processes along the way
Term 3
Applying design to a project
Techniques on how to do this
We discover and play around with different techniques and students have choice around what and how
Term 4
Looking at a leisure garment such as a bomber jacket....
Recommended Prior Learning
No prior knowledge needed although being able to understand and use a sewing machine independently would be beneficial as would Level 1.
Contributions and Equipment/Stationery
Students are able to use resources in the Textiles room or provide their own.
