Level 1 Home Economics
Course Description

Home Economics works on further developing skills and knowledge learnt in the Junior School in both the Foods and Health areas. We look at a variety of topics in relation to the hauora of individuals, whānau, and communities.
Course Overview
Term 1
1.1 Understaning how activities that you participate effect the Hauora of you and others:
Students will participate in a varitey of activities - from building gingerbread houses, creating individual menus to catering for others. Through participation students will then link it to the Maori model of Te Whare Tapa Wha.
Term 2
1.2 Decision Making process around a Foods topic
In this Standard students will look at things like food choices and the things that influcence those choices We will investigate things like school canteens and the foods that they supply. While trying to come up with some of our own takes on the typical kiwi takeaway.
Term 3
External Exam - Understanding factors that influence hauora
Recommended Prior Learning
Ideally had taken either Year 9 or 10 Foods
