Level 2 Pasifika Studies

Students will have four hours per week dedicated to engaging with various NCEA assessments related to their cultural heritage. The course includes options for assessments in Samoan, Tongan, Pasifika Studies, and Cook Island cultures, encompassing tasks such as speeches in native languages and reports on indigenous knowledge.

The class is structured to allow students to actively participate in SPACPAC events, gaining a deeper understanding of their cultural activities and responsibilities.

Through this course, students will have the opportunity to build a strong sense of belonging and develop their Pacific identity by fostering new expectations and reinforcing their connection to their cultural heritage.

Course Overview

Term 1
Term one is focused around performance. Students will take part in Polyfest where they will learn a cultural dance and perform it at the South Island Polyfest event

Term 2
Term two is learning about cultural identity. Students will research their own cultural identity, learn about their heritage and present their findings. For some students, it may be learning where you came from and for others it will be finding a deeper connection within your pacific culture.

Term 3
Term three will be focusing on speeches. Students will create and perform their own speeches that outline a cultural theme. This will also align with a SPACPACC incentive where student's will be able to represent HHS and participate in an interschool Pacific speech competition.

Term 4
Term four will be finishing up the year and completing outstanding assessments.
