Level 3 Design & Visual Communication
Course Description
Teacher in Charge: Mr O. Richardson.
Growing on the skills you have learnt in year 12. Year 13 is split up into two main projects. Product design and Spatial design.
You will work through a design process in designing a desk lamp and a cafe for Taylors Mistake, which will finish in using the laser cutter in making an amazing 3D model of your work. You will do a site trip and be able to produce an exhibition of your design. This course aligns with interior design, drafting and if you want to become an architect.
Your Product Design will be designing a desk lamp. You will again work through a design process to produce a lamp of your choice.
Course Overview
Term 1
Level 3 DVC builds on the skills and processes that your learnt in year 12. We start of the term with a field trip to Taylors Mistake Beach as this is the location for your design project. You will be designing a café for the beach. We will start generating design ideas that are related to the location and use these to inform your ideas. In year 13 we learn industry level software so if you are planning on going to study Architecture, you will be familiar with the programs.
Term 2
Term 2 will be finalizing your café project. As you work through the design process, you would have generated floor plans, a construction model, and communicated your interior design. Similar to year 12, we now use the work that you have produced and generate a presentation of your design. This presentation is 6 credits. You will learn how to use the laser cutter to make a physical model of your design.
Term 3
As you wrap up with spatial design for the year, we take a shift to product design by designing a desk lamp. Similar to the first project, you will work through a design process to generate a lamp and in result you will gain 6 credits as well.
Term 4
Completion of outstanding portfolio work and submission of any outstanding credits.
