Level 1 Commerce
Course Description

Throughout the year in Level 1 Commerce we will be broadening your understanding of different business practices, skills and knowledge, so as to be able to apply these to a variety of business situations. It will build on your existing knowledge, increase your business vocabulary and give you opportunities to demonstrate your level of understanding through the NCEA Level 1 credits being offered. In Level 1 Commerce our focus will be on small to medium business enterprises (SME), looking at some of the challenges they face and offering suggested solutions using business best practice.
Course Overview
Term 1
Students will understand the purpose of business as we examine the why. Why do people start businesses and how to start one? We look at managing your own money and making good financial decisions.
Term 2
We look at the basics of economics and how to determine the best price for your product.
Term 3
Students will run their own business, coming up with a product to sell at school in a Market day.
Term 4
Students will combine their learning and put it towards gaining some final credits in the end of year exam.
Recommended Prior Learning
Recommended to have taken Year 9 or 10 Business. This is not essential
Pathway
Business knowledge is a great stepping stone into a range of employment opportunities. Whether it is sales, office administration, legal, financial, business management or making money from your next big idea - business skills and money smarts are very transferable!
Assessment Information
Assessments 1.3 and 1.4 contribute 5 credits each towards Literacy. Assessment 1.1 contributes 5 credits towards Numeracy - they are Approved Standards for Co-requisites.Credit Information
You will be assessed in this course through all or a selection of the standards listed below.
