Level 1 Outdoor Education

Course Description

Teacher in Charge: Mr A. Kane.

Level 1 introduces you to basic tramping, camping, navigation, sailing and rock climbing skills.

Pre-requisites – None: but you should be reasonably active and show a positive attitude to theory and practical work.

To get into Level 1: Open entry to anyone. However priority will be given to those who have successsfully completed the Year 10 option course.

Contributions and Equipment/Stationery

To cover costs (food, camping fees, outside provider costs) while away on field trips we ask for a $100 contribution towards these costs. Also it would help if students have their own boots, thermals, fleece jacket/jumper and raincoat - but if not the Outdoor Education department has a selection that students can borrow.

The foundation that O.Ed. provides will lead to many possible careers here in N.Z. and overseas, for example: Dept of Conservation, Search and Rescue, Police, Adventure Tourism Operators, Ski Instructing, Ski Patrolling, Heli Ski Guiding, Mountain Guiding, Teaching, Outdoor Pursuit instructing, Raft Guiding, Kayak Guiding, Rockclimbing, Trophy Game Hunting, etc, etc.
