Course Description

Sew Far, Sew Good...
Textile Technology provides an opportunity for students to sew through exploring technological activities that use a creative and ‘hands on’ approach to learning using textiles, commercial patterns and resources.
Learn/re-learn basic sewing techniques, and develop understandings of patterns, fabrics and garment construction. Design and sew a variety of projects and garments to develop your skill and creativity.
This course will involve research, brief development, concept design, construction and evaluating outcomes. Students will focus on producing textiles based garments/outcomes fit for purpose over the course of the year.
Course Overview
Term 1
We will start the year off with BRIEF DESIGN which looks at the concept of designing for a stakeholder.
Taking that design and creating it
Work will be presented digitally or in a folio board
Term 2
This term will look at implementing basic procedures using textile materials to make a specified product.
In other words this is CREATE
We will be stitching from a commercial pattern of your choice (structured within capabilities)
Term 3
Term 3 looks at the understanding part
Understanding why we stitch things in a certain and way and making informed choices
Using this knowledge we will construct a barrel bag with a pocket and design
Term 4
With a little bit of good planning we will use this term to squeeze in another project.
There will be no external so time will be taken to finish off all work.
Recommended Prior Learning
No prior knowledge needed although being able to understand and use a sewing machine would be beneficial
