Why Study Photography?
Level two photography is a chance to explore your ideas in the medium of photography alone. However, you can work in a number of ways in this field; using the photocopier, digital manipulation, hand cut and digital photomontage.
Art-making trains the eye through the hand. Photography trains the brain to view your surroundings through the lens and frame moments, movements, colours, and shapes to express your point of view. It is a completely different part of the brain that is activated and developed when you apply yourself to making art, and it unlocks potential we didn't know existed as a creative maker.
Who can study Photography?
Anyone. It is a fairly open entry. It is useful to have level one Art, but not necessary. You must want to make art to do this course.
Term 1
Developing your kaupapa - what is your photographic theme this year? We have four categories that you brainstorm against to develop this. You will learn specific techniques in photography using handmade, copier-based and digital practices. You will learn some good solid basics on photoshop and/or photopea. You need to work digitally for this course. You should finish the term with 2.1 in photography, worth four internal credits. All work must be documented on your blog.
Term 2
During term two, you begin to develop the series and sequences to develop your kaupapa further. The techniques you have learned from this term and last, fulfill your requirements for 2.2 (four internal credits). All work must be documented on your blog.
Term 3
During this term, you are putting your folio together using the best work from terms one and two on board one and developing board two for your 12 credit externally assessed folio. A mixture of techniques and composition are expected here in order to complete 2.3 (four internal credits) along with all planning pages. All work must be documented on your blog.
Term 4
By the end of week two of this term, your folio (12 external credits) is completed. It will highlight your best work from the year and clearly demonstrate the Kaupapa with skills you have learned. It is assessed by your Art teachers first and check-marked in Wellington by NZQA. Following this, you will have an opportunity to resubmit for your internals if you missed out on them during the course of the year. All work must be documented on your blog.
