Welcome to SchoolPoint, and Hornby High School course selection for 2025
Course selection is now OPEN for all current Year 10, Year 11 and Year 12 students. Please ensure you read the appropriate supporting information about the selection process.
Please find outlined below some tips and hints for course selection information for each of the year levels mentioned. It is really important that any questions should be directed to your wānanga teacher first, with follow up conversations with your cohort dean, or subject HOD as outlined on the course information page.
Yr 9&10 Overview:
In 2025, all students in Years 9-13 will be part of a wānanga grouping, with Year 9&10 students all having 2 x 60 minute periods of wānanga time per week.
In addition, Yr 9 & 10 students will all study the following compulsory, foundation subjects: English, Mathematics, Science, Social Studies, PE and Health.
Alongside those compulsory subjects, all Yr 9 and 10 students will have the chance to choose up to 2 option subjects, for 2 semesters (one semester is 2 terms). These will each be running for 2 x 1 hour periods, per week.

Yr 11/12/13 Instructions:
In 2025, all students in Years 11 - 13 will be part of a wānanga grouping, and each class will have 1 x 60 minute period of wānanga time per week.
All senior students in Years 11, 12 & 13 will choose SIX full year courses. Each course runs for 4 x 60minute periods per week, and runs for the full year.
Students should choose their full course at the appropriate level (NCEA Level 1, 2 or 3). Generally, Year 11 students study Level 1 courses, Year 12 students study Level 2 courses, and Year 13 students study Level 3 courses; however, this can vary depending on student need (for example, it is common for a Year 13 student to study a Level 2 course if they need more Level 2 credits.
