Level 2 English - Vocational
Course Description
Teacher in Charge: Mrs D. Truter.
This 2ENV course is an internal assessment course and offers a range of Unit Standards with the potential for some optional Achievement Standards at the teacher's discretion. The course caters to students following a more practical or vocational pathway and leads to the Level 3 Vocational English programme. It does not offer entry to the academic Level 3 English course nor does it grant university entrance literacy. This programme has practical work-place applications, and will support students in terms of job seeking with writing business correspondence, formal interviews, meeting protocol and producing a CV. It will also include the opportunity to gain the NCEA Literacy Co-requisite Level 1 Unit Standards (10 credits) for those students who still need it.
Course Overview
Term 1
In Term 1 students will develop literacy skills in reading and writing. Students will write two pieces of formal business correspondence to be assessed against Unit Standard 10792. They will begin a programme of personal independent reading which could lead to a Level 2 Achievement Standard.
Term 2
In Term 2 students will continue their personal reading to extract meaning from written texts. They will participate in meetings to be assessed against US 10791; and read and assess texts on a topic to be assessed against US 2989. Students still requiring Level 1 literacy will focus on developing their literacy skills for the literacy reading and writing common assessment activities US 32403 and US 32405.
Term 3
In Term 3 students will consolidate their reading and focus on writing reports and articles. They will conduct an investigation to evaluate fake online information (US 33141) and write a short report (US 3492.) Students will also be interviewed in a formal interview (US 1294.) Any students still requiring Level 1 literacy will focus on developing their literacy skills for the literacy reading and writing common assessment activities US 32403 and US 32405.
Term 4
In Term 4 students will be given the opportunity to resubmit any work towards the completion of the unit standards attempted earlier in the year. There will also be the potential to attempt one or more Achievement Standards at the discretion of the teacher.
