Level 2 Gateway
Course Description
Gateway is a TEC funded programme that provides students with structured workplace learning across a range of industries and businesses around New Zealand, while they continue to study at school Students are given the opportunity to explore a vocational pathway that they are interested in. They do both theory and practical unit standards that contribute to NCEA and the NZ Vocational Pathways Award.
You must be a NZ Citizen or permanent resident. You also need to be 16 years of age. Acceptance into this course will be confirmed after an interview with the Gateway Co-Ordinator. Acceptance is also dependent on NCEA results, attendance, independent learner and acceptance by your Dean. Hornby High School currently has 25 Gateway placements available to students studying in either Year 12 or 13.
Course Overview
Term 1
Introduction to career pathways and options. You will do a Career Unit Standard looking to help you understand your career choices. You will also be doing your First Aid and Health & Safety courses / certificates.
Term 2
This is where you will go out and do your chosen work placements. You will also start your industry units applicable to your career choice. Complete your study for your learner driver's licence so that you are ready to sit the test.
Term 3
Finishing units of work and can take up a new work placement. You can start to study for your other subjects to replace time taken out of school with work placements.
Recommended Prior Learning
Students must have Level 1 Numeracy and Literacy to enter this course.
Contributions and Equipment/Stationery
Any required safety equipment and clothing will be paid for by school. There is no charge to students for participating in gateway.
Pathway
This course can lead onto any career the student choses and gives them work experience for further job opportunities.
Assessment Information
All of these standards are internally assessed. There is no resit opportunity for the First Aid and Health & Safety assessments.Credit Information
