Textile Technology provides an opportunity for students to sew through exploring Textiles activities that use a creative and ‘hands on’ approach to learning using fabrics, commercial patterns and resources.
Learn/re-learn basic sewing techniques, and develop understandings of patterns, fabrics and garment construction. Design and sew a variety of projects and garments to develop your skill and creativity.
We start off with creating a Hoodie for an authentic environment and then work our way through testing and trialing choosing activities as we go.
This course will involve research, brief development, concept design, construction and evaluating outcomes. Students will focus on producing textiles based garments/outcomes fit for purpose over the course of the year.
Mahi is collated as a Portfolio of techniques and processes used with a small digital component, alongside the finished project.
Term 1
We will start the year off with reconnecting with all things stitching
Work will be presented in a portfolio
This will record our journey throughout the year.
Simple resource tasks to practice and consolidate skills.
Term 2
This term will look at implementing basic procedures using textile materials to make a specified product.
In other words this is CREATE
We will be stitching from a commercial pattern - hoodies.
We will begin a little of this in term one and it will carry through this term.
It looks at represent our identity through design
Term 3
Term 3 looks at the understanding part
Understanding why we stitch things in a certain and way and making informed choices
This is a non wearable item where you have agancy to choose what it will be
We tackle things such as felting, layering fabric, embriodery and applique
We also tackle our external this term
It looks a 'what' we do (techniques) and 'why' we choose to do it that way
Term 4
With a little bit of good planning we will use this term to squeeze in another project.
We also use this time to finish off all we have been doing
Portofio work submitted in paper form as well as a digital component
